How to Free International Calls

When a family member or a close friend goes to travel outside of the country, one of the biggest concerns is how would we reach them? Calling through local carriers could be very expensive, but would it not be excellent to be able to call them for free, without any additional roaming charges?

Here you go with a few easy and free ways to call at international numbers.

Making calls through desktop computer:

Some services that allow free international calls are listed below, but they do have conditions of their own:

  • EvaPhone: It allows you to call anyone in many countries around the world for free, but they do have time limits for each call.
  • Free phone2phone: This service also has time limits plus the added disadvantage of having to sit through a promotion before each call. They do have no sign ups and longer time limits. However, unfortunately it is only for users living in America.
  • Skype: It allows you to call other Skype users around the world free of any charges, given they have Skype on whatever device they use. It also charges for calls made to landline or mobile phone numbers.
  • Rebtel: This gives you the option of having an easy-to-access contacts list, and has great call quality. It offers you the pre-purchased credit that enables you to make calls at a cheaper rate.

Making calls through mobile phones:

Making international calls is no longer a hassle or an expensive feat as the introduction of many free-calling applications through Android, iPhone and Windows phones has made it definitely easier. They only require a strong connection (WiFi or your data plan) and you’re good to go. Some of these are listed below:

  • Google Voice: It offers you economical international calling rates, voicemail with transcription, personalized voicemail messages, and forwarding calls to other phones. Alas, Google Voice does is still widely restricted across the US, so if you need to make a call to someone there it is not the best option.
  • Rebtel: It can be used with any device to make cheap international calls and it also has a function that means you have to pay a local fee to make international calls.
  • Skype: It is one of the best options to make free calls to another Skype user anywhere in the world, or to make calls on a phone number at very inexpensive rates. Even though the option of video chat is available the call quality is still unpredictable.
  • Vonage: It is very much like Skype except with the option of video calls. It offers cheap international call rates, and free calls to other Vonage users. The call quality is also great as it uses HD audio for the calls.

Making calls through landline:

Traditional carriers do offer international calling plans, but if you do not have any special calling plan that allows free international calls, you will have to pay for the international standard charges to call from your landline. Some services may offer international calling using your landline equipment, but again, a special plan is required to make free international calls. Rebtel , however, does allow you to make calls any where in the world at a cheap rate.
